Some quick info on Patrick Vaughn:
I was raised in Sierra Vista, Arizona, graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, and now live in Phoenix.
Arizona is home: a young, diverse
state trying to discover itself as it grows too quickly. Like teenagers.
I try to write stories that both teenagers and adults can enjoy.
My primary genre is contemporary fantasy, taking place in a present day
world with below-the-radar supernatural features. I have a day job at a
library for blind children. I've been writing stories for pleasure as
long as I can remember; The Cure for the Curse is my first published novel.
I am inspired by any
storytelling experience that gets my imagination churning. Such as:
Hopefully you'll be able to get to know me through my writing; I will be posting various unpublished stories and multimedia projects as time goes on. Check the news page for updates.

I am inspired by any
storytelling experience that gets my imagination churning. Such as:
- The stories of Tim Powers. Clean, smooth writing; intricate, flawlessly executed plots tinged with uncertainty and shadow. Powers always does his research, but never bores the reader with minutiae. And he NEVER goes over-the-top with the supernatural.
- The television series of Joss Whedon. Whedon's works* are a wonderful balance of drama, action and humor, with well-developed characters and relationships, and always creatively executed. "Firefly" may be the most creative television ever broadcast.
- The movies of Hayao Miyazaki. Breathtaking visuals with wildly imaginative settings; nontraditional plots and characters. Miyazaki always challenges me to look at my characters from another angle, all while dazzling my eyes.
- The music of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Epic, melancholy, bewildering, and darkly inspirational.
- The games of the Final Fantasy series, particularly VII, VIII and X. Sweeping, patient, twisting, packed with hours of characterization, beautiful, mind-boggling. And they're interactive, which is about as fun as anything gets.
